Onward to the Elric Apartments. This kidnapping stuff is bad, and they can only assume that Dante's building up an army on her side. Roy's all up for recruitment, though he really hates having to make every other visit an upsetting one.

It was an hour into the workday and Havoc still hadn't shown up at the office. Not a word. A phone call. Nothing. Roy had watered the plants, straightened the file cabinet, cleaned the windows, and there was still no sign of him. He considers calling Havoc's home and trying to reach him there, but then he sees it lying next to the phone and atop that stack of work he tried to avoid. Quite the detailed list of instructions in that messy scrawl. First up, contact Fuhrer Mustang.

He dials quickly and taps his fingers on the desk impatiently, waiting for someone to pickup. Dammit, pickup.

Roy lounges casually against the outside wall of the shooting range, just beside the exit, waiting for Jean to finish up. He'd tried to see him at the apartment a couple weeks back, but Jean was gone with no note posted and very little explination left with the tenants. Seems he'd gone in a bit of a hurry, which can't help but ignite some curiosity and a speck of worry in Roy. Hopefully, letting loose some shots will have calmed him enough to talk about whatever the hypothetical problem may be.

A sight for sore eyes

The chibi thing didn't matter anymore. Not even being a girl or in a miniskirt. Those were some of the last thoughts on his mind after seeing the image of his best friend, the angel. He knows that the Hughes of the Nexus isn't really the person he knew for so long, the one that watched out for him and died for his cause, but it's truly the most that Roy could wish for his deceased friend, assuming there's some life beyond death. Hughes deserves the joy and the contentment of the divine.

With his walk to and through his Nexus portal, the LOL fades, though his uniform and gloves are still a bit damp. He's in a vulnerable position, but doesn't take much notice to even that. It's been too long. He's been too busy. Maes deserves more than some flimsy excuses, and Roy needs to sort through some of these thoughts. Hughes was always so good at simplifying matters.

All the little flower shops along the street have already closed for the night, but he can do without. Roy lets his feet carry him straight to the hilltop and to Hughes's grave. He stares absently above the dark horizon the entire way, his instincts keeping track of his surroundings, but his conscious mind drifting between bittersweet thoughts. His feet stop at the foot of the grave, and his eyes drop forlornly to the head stone.

He wishes his friend could appear in the same way; right now. The alternate of his Maes seemed so relaxed as an angel. It was natural and almost not worth acknowledging. But he's not the friend from his youth, not really. If only Roy could see his Maes and have some sort of verification. Yes, he's dead, but things are fine and times will be better; that's all he wants to hear. Roy might not believe in God, but he would love to know that his friend is watching over him from a cloud and still laughing at and despite Roy's sorry life.

Would it be silly to talk to a stone? Even if he's not really out there? It doesn't matter now. "Sorry it's been so long. No good reason for it. Things have been nothing but trouble since you left. You were just the beginning. My...my life's being stolen from me. I'm in deep, Hughes. And dammit, I want you here! I hate thinking I'm part of why you're gone! Things had better be happier wherever you've gone. I've got work to do in this hell, but you deserve the best for all you've done. That's an equivalent trade. There'd better be laughter on the other side of that grave, dammit...." Roy falls into silence. There's no signs or traces or supernatural clues as to his friend's well being, just a breeze. Nothing at all, but it's something off of Roy's chest, and there's solace in that. He stands by the grave, in the quiet company of a corpse for minutes then hours. He only leaves because his legs are beginning to shake from tired strain. He turns away with a sigh and a soft goodbye and a promise to himself that he won't be so scarce in the time to come.

The image is bittersweet, but not once does Roy cry. The whole way home. Through half a bottle of whiskey. Drifting to sleep in his bed. He's too hopeful to find the tears in himself.

Roy doesn't even bother calling back once he gets Jean's message. This was too much. A chance to fix it, to get him on his feet again. Without spending even a minute in his own apartment, Roy's back out the door and on his way to check with Jean, with his concerns and reservations. He needed some support right now. Right now.

It takes a few minutes to make his way to the main entrance of the Elric Apartments and abuse the buzzer to Jean's apartment.

((I started writing this up months ago, but then got distracted by other things. I dug it up recently and....realized that it sucked. Much has developed in that time, so here I have a completely revised,
rewritten, but not reread fact sheet for manga!Roy! XD; Hopefully it's all understandable.))

1. (start it off right) Riza is the only woman Roy has every truly loved.

2. His plans extend no farther than defeat the monsters, become Führer, end the fighting, and marry Riza.

3. He feels the same hatred for alternates of his enemies as he does their original counterparts (unless their personalities are completely
altered, such as with Pervy!Envy).

4. However, he does not harbor like feelings for the counterparts of his friends. The bond of shared experiences matters more than a person’s face or like personality.

5. Because of this, he will never be as close to Nexus!Hughes as he was with his own. He knows that his friend is gone, dead, and buried and there’s no way to bring him back. He doesn’t want to get too close to the living Hughes because he doesn’t want to lessen the memory of his old friend. A part of him also fears that history could repeat itself, especially after the fight in Greed’s bar.

6. Roy requires a fireplace in his apartment. He’ll maintain small flames in it all the times he’s at home, even through the summer, for that small comfort that he won’t be rendered useless in some emergency.

7. Roy hates going swimming, though he learned how to swim as a child. He likes the beach atmosphere just fine, but loathes the idea of getting in the water, and you are never likely to find him within thirty feet of a pool.

8. Even when he’s at home alone, he locks the bathroom door when he’s taking a shower.

9. He preemptively keeps a lighter in the drawer of his bedside table, so he won’t have to steal one from Havoc again, and won’t be left without a spark in any anticipated fight. He doesn’t carry it regularly.

10. He works under the assumption that his team is safe from immediate danger, otherwise he would keep the lighter on him and would also wear his spark cloth gloves at all times.

11. Roy’s greatest need is to be needed.

12. He really wants his friends to trust him with their problems. If he can’t even take some responsibility for those closest to him, he sees that as a sign as not being prepared or worthy enough to lead an entire country.

13. This also causes him to take undue responsibility and often guilt. He goes on temporary guilt trips for not noticing or fixing problems that weren’t originally his.

14. His ability to reason is nearly nonexistent once anger comes into play.

15. In contrast, once he starts doubting himself he’ll over think everything and put himself in a rut.

16. He seeks personal information concerning his friends on a need-to-know basis. He’ll respect privacy to a point, but if he senses some festering problems, he “needs to know” and will do whatever he can to get his peers to open up.

17. He occasionally hides the extent of his knowledge from his own mun until the appointed rp time out of respect for the privacy of his friends.

18. You bet your ass there’s bourbon in his cupboard.

19. While part of putting off his paperwork is appearing somewhat incompetent and keeping the higher-ups whose jobs he’s set his sights on from worrying about him climbing the ranks, mostly he just hates all the red tape. He’s far more concerned with actively changing society and feels that paperwork just gets in his way. He’d rather clean the windows.

20. The scar from where he cut an array into his own skin is still clear on the back of his right hand and can be used for alchemy.

21. Roy has a gun strapped around his waist, and knows how to use it in case all else fails. Although he’s been getting out of practice with it.

22. The doujinshi are in an open cardboard box in the back corner of his bedroom closet. He’s not putting any effort into hiding it, but he’s not just going to leave it in plain sight.

23. Roy tries to play the role of guardian to the Elrics, but more as an uncle than a father. He wants to goad them on toward their goals, but also be their backup with all the trouble they get in. He can see that they are strong and capable young men, but recognizes a childish innocence still encompassing them.

24. Roy likes to look people directly in the eye, especially when he’s talking seriously with them. It’s how he reads people best.

25. Riza’s not Roy’s first. He had sex before they became a couple, but again, the level of emotion was never there.

Roy was something akin to pissed as hell.

You'll make a bid for power, and the country'll descend into chaos! Just think of how many people like me and the Slicer Brothers you'll create!

Damned, disillusioned, insane, malicious Barry the Chopper. Roy'd done so well in humoring the psychopath, writing him off as well as all his unfounded assumptions, but that....That made Roy out to be the very monster he was living to fight. Damn him. And now he's glued himself to his Riza. Roy can feel a low growl growing in the back of his throat just thinking about it.

He makes his way to the shooting range closest to his apartment to try and relieve some of this tension with a few rounds of gunfire. He could use the practice anyway; he's been getting too comfortable with this AV field. Of course, the first thing he notices upon entering the range is a Riza seated in a chair by the wall near the entrance. Not his...She's older, and there's a cane leaning against the wall beside her. Seems she's waiting for someone.

Roy freezes for a moment, not knowing if his company would be welcome or inconvenient to her, despite all the encouragement a Mrs. Mustang could provide.

Roy's back at the Elric apartments. This time he's come alone. Yeah, he could have organized a small housewarming party, but he's been so busy with things around the office, most of them not pertaining to the military at all, he just couldn't bother working out the schedules. He's dressed casually; this obviously wasn't some last minute, after work decision to stop by. Under his left arm is a relatively thin and well kept book.

He buzzes apartment two. Jean better be in...

Roy learned alchemy as a young man from Riza's father, and was working with the military at the time. ~~I find it increasingly unlikely that he has seen Riza's tattoo. His knowledge of alchemy is refined, but not complete, the way I see it.~~ Edit: Alchemizing the air for flames was the special knowledge, and Roy has seen Riza topless. XD
